Too Many Cover Changes: Blood of Eden

Original Cover

Blood of Eden is one of my new favorite series out there right now, and I can not wait until The Eternity Cure comes out! I love love love the original cover though of the first book, I can not fathom as to why the publisher's have felt the need to change it. Here is the article from Harlequin TEEN about the cover change.

Far too many series are having these cover changes mid series lately. I, for one, am getting rather irritated. I buy the first book, then the cover changes and the books no longer match! What is up with this? Come on publishers, stick by your original designs!

What do you all think of this? Is it getting to be a bit ridiculous?

  1. They will often change colors to boost sales. If you notice, covers trend, and when one book or series isn't doing as well as they'd like, they will change the covers to match the current trends to try and draw more readers to the book/series. It's all in the marketing. :)

    1. That is true, and I understand why they do that for sales. But, doing it mid series with books that aren't even done yet? That's where my problem lies.

And, I really dislike these covers. They remind me of the Twilight covers that were out, and the LOTR covers that are out.

  2. WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE THEY THINKING!?!?! I'm totally on with you on this one! I really liked the old cover. These new covers are so unoriginal and bland.

Oh Julie Kagawa, please forgive my distaste of this series. The cover is nearly everything to me, and your publisher has just killed all of my love for black circles.

    1. I agree, I loved the old cover. These new ones look far too much like the Twilight covers with circles (the moon) and the LOTR covers with circles (the ring).

Maybe as a culture we are attracted to circles? I don't get it.

  3. I agree with you. Just like the Shades of Earth by Beth Revis (the new covers really REALLY REALLY SUCK. from stars to metal. damn, that was stupid of the publishers) and Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (the eyes... they don't really embody Juliette, but I must say, the cover of Destroy Me is just fab) and now this. Dang. Furthermore, the new covers suck. They're so freaking plain. GUH. It's as if they want people to just pass by the books.

    1. Oh yes, I have major issues with Shades of the Earth covers. Those really bother me. I was about to buy Shatter Me, and they just changed those covers so I've decided to wait on that.

These covers look like all of the other covers out there with circles on them.

  4. I can't agree with you more-- and what frustrates me the most is when they switch the covers to something LESS attractive than the original ! They suck me in with book one and then switch the covers so I am now forced to buy an unattractive book because I am already attached to the series, lol ! The new covers for the Blood of Eden series aren't the worst covers I've ever seen, but they're just so blah-- I'm a bit disappointed by the switch.
